More and more Green Party members are supporting a change in our policy on HS2, particularly as minds are focused on our conference in Manchester – a city stitched-up by the cancellation of the most beneficial part of the scheme: the leg from Birmingham.
Our leadership team
All three of our leadership team have expressed personal views about the need to get our HS2 policy aligned with current reality rather than past aspirations.
CARLA Denyer – co-leader

“Speaking entirely for myself for a moment … we’re reaching the stage that enough of the HS2 route is built that perhaps we should start transitioning from opposing it to holding HS2 Ltd to account to make sure it can be the best it can be.”

Adrian Ramsay – co-Leader

“London to Birmingham] has largely been built and so the question now is whether the Northern leg is also built. I do think there is a case for that. […] We certainly need to make sure that in investing in our infrastructure, areas like the North, Manchester where we are for our conference, must not lose out. […] that principle of investing in railways including in the north of England is a really important one”

Zack Polanski – Deputy Leader

“I’m speaking to you from Manchester, some of the […] more Northern towns and cities are so badly connected so I think there’s an argument now that if you’re gonna go through HS2 to this point you’ve [got to] connect these bits too“

Conference Attendees
Councillors, group leaders, officers and members from all over the country are supporting our motion E01 – Green Rail Strategy for the Midlands and the North.
